Christian Lessons for Everyday Life

Prayerfully you will be inspired and feel empowered to live according to God's word by reading the Bible. With the understanding that the "Comforter the Holy Spirit whom the Father sent in his name, shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever I have said unto you". John 14:26  (KJV)

SCRIPTURE: Philippians 4: 4, 6-7

4. Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. 5. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6. Be anxious for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be known unto God. 7. And the peace of God , which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

 Brief Scripture Context

As noted the scripture was taken from the book of Philippians an Epistle considered the Joy Book, written by the Apostle Paul.  In these passages of scriptures Paul encourages the believers to rejoice.  He  also tells them  not to be anxious for anything. Why not?, Paul's belief was they could talk directly to God who has all power and authority and was in control of their lives and circumstances. Believers should humble themselves, thank the Lord for what he has done, then make your request known. Paul was a chained prisoner in Rome when he wrote this letter to the Philippians. He wanted to thank them for the gift they had sent him while he was in prison and to strengthen them by showing that true joy comes from Jesus Christ alone. Joy stands, the confident assurance of God's love and work in their lives he would be there no matter what happens. "Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again: Rejoice". (4:4) You see even though Paul was locked in chains he said it was helping spread Christianity as prison guards were converted by him. In II Corinthians 11: 24-29 Paul says he was beaten by the Jews five times,  three times he was beaten with rods, once he was stoned , three times he was ship wrecked in perils of water, attacked by robbers, his own country men, and by heathens, endured perils in the city, in the wilderness, the sea, and perils of false brethren. He goes on to mention that he there were times when he was weary, in pain, however watching often, in hunger, thirst, cold, naked and more. Because he had poured out his life as an offering for the sake of Christ it lead him to find joy and contentment in Christ service. Later in this chapter he goes on to say  think on (v8) positive things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtue and if there be praise in any of them, think on those things.  He encourages the Philippians even more to say that he was content in what ever state he was in (4: 11, 12)

When stress and anxiety is taking over your life what do you do?

The majority if not more of the world is in some form of human or economic perils. II Timothy 3 calls it perilous times. Both words perils and perilous refers to danger, risk or exposed to imminent risk of disaster or ruin. Perilous times mentioned in ll Timothy are thought to be afar off however We are truly living in perilous time now. Many lives have been inundated from the grips and fear of COVID which has created a major crisis. There are issues at a magnitude that has never been experience before. In addition there are wars, earthquakes, a rise in disease, little to no regard for the law, civil unrest, division, killing, burning, robbery, and persecution of Christians, and the Church.

These conditions have resulted in increased amount of anxiety and stress on a daily of which you may feel you don't have control.  There are feelings of being overwhelmed. depression, fear of the uncertainty of not being able to provide food or housing for the family due to unemployment,  inexperience to run "zoom school", anger and burnout, insecurity to mention a few. There has been an increase in psychological issues,  which produce crisis in domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse, and suicide which has increased not only in adults but among the adolescent and teen population. Any of these situations can upset the status quo, the balance or stability, both physically and mentally in your life. It is one thing or another, something that needs your attention, that results in increased stress that leads you to feel overwhelmed, anxious and you don't know what to do. When you don't know what to do Pray. God and Prayer is the answer. Pray believing that God is bigger than your situation.

Remember you are not alone so do not try to do life on your own. Enhance your prayer,  get agreement especially if you are so overwhelmed that you may not feel that you can not effectively pray for yourself or anyone else. God is your source of comfort and strength and He can bring clarity to your situation. Isaiah 41:10 states fear not or be not dismayed,  God will strengthen and uphold you. Matthew 6:25 say he has commanded that we not worry. God loves you so cast your cares on him, lean into him and trust him to meet your need.

As the opening scripture states, you don't have to be anxious for anything rather make your petition to God through prayer and request through thanksgiving and supplication known. Talk to God, tell him how you feel and what you need. God is your resource and your source of comfort.

V.6-- Don't be anxious or worry about anything, instead pray about everything. You must tell God what you need and thank him for what he has already done so ( V. 7) you will be able to experience his peace to guard your heart and mind. Have faith in God to know that you can leave your situation with him and he has the power to grant your request. I Peter 5:7 lets you know that you can cast all of your cares,  on God which includes your stress and anxiety. Because he cares for you he will sustain you while you are in that place of need. Do not underestimate the power of prayer, keep the faith and believe that no matter what is happening your request are granted in the name of Jesus. Nothing is too hard for God and he is more than able to keep you in perfect peace.

                                                           CHRISTIAN LESSON

SCRIPTURE: I John 5:14

Scripture Context

Pray the will of God, Matthew 6:9-13 says this then is how you should prayer which refers to the Lord's Prayer. Praying with the realization that the our Father is in control, and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Daily Application

The initial lesson, found on the Inspiration Quotes page discusse

d prayer as a solution relative to anxiety . This lesson will address the elements of prayer. We have seen in the book of Philippians 4:6 not to be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. The conditions that need to be considered in prayer are having an open heart, forgiveness and confession, and praying in God's will which consist of praying the bible, and praying in faith.

Before going to God in prayer you must have an open heart. Because Jesus has already died for you, he made you right before God. All you have to do is to receive the free gift of salvation and that involves opening your heart to Jesus who is knocking.

Revelation 3:20 says if you open the door to your heart Jesus will come in. This will allow you to get personal with God and pray with power when you have gone before the throne room of Grace. For God to hear you pray the prayer of confession keeps our communication line open to God. Then when we have to pray the will of God.

Praying the will of God gives you confidence that God will hear your prayer, pray what he says in his word. I John 5:14. Even In Matthew 26:39 Jesus prayed that God's will be done, not his will. Praying the bible, God's Word is his will. You have to get into the bible to find the promises and claims then you can pray his truths back to him. Sometimes there maybe something where you can not see specifics. In a situation of that nature you have to pray the prayer of faith meaning you are trusting that God is all knowing know what you have need of before you ask, and he is able to manifest your answer. You must have confidence that what you hope for is going to happen Hebrews 11: 1.

Life Application

Where is your focus concerning joy?  Is it on the world and what you think it can give or is it on Jesus, the source and the center of joy. You can have the Joy of the Lord if you focus on him in spite of trails and tribulations. Just think,  your life and all that is around you is temporal, God's Joy is eternal. You must trust believe and focus on the Giver and not only what he can give. Be thankful for all that has been done, how he has kept you , how he has provided, how he's healed, and how he's bought peace to your chaos. In this season of celebration, give God his Glory and thanks. Remember that Jesus should be our focus for joy and he is the reason for the season.

Prayer: Lord thanks that you are the source of all true joy in life. Strengthen me in my areas of weakness and teach me to pray and lean on you more. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
